How to Cook Perfect Ground Beef.

Browned ground beef in a skillet with a wooden spoon

Serves: 1–2 · Prep: 5 min · Cook: 8–10 min

Make It

  1. Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add about 1 Tbsp avocado oil, olive oil, butter, or ghee.

  2. Add 8 oz ground meat to the pan.

  3. Season* with sea salt and black pepper.

  4. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spatula, until the moisture has cooked off, the meat is browned and fully cooked, about 8–10 minutes.

  5. Remove from heat and use as desired.

Notes

  • Ground meat is one of the most versatile proteins and works well in bowls, salads, wraps, sauces, or paired with vegetables and complex carbs. This method works well with 90% lean ground beef (ideally grass-fed), ground turkey, or bison. It also works with ground chicken, though it may need 1–2 extra minutes for thorough cooking.

  • *Coco’s favorite flavor twist: Instead of salt, add a small splash of soy sauce, plus generous onion powder and a sprinkle of cumin while cooking. It adds depth and umami without needing extra sauces. Perfect for a protein bowl.
