How to Cook the Perfect Burger.

Cooked burger patty in a skillet

Serves: 1–2 · Prep: 5 min · Cook: 6–8 min

Make It

  1. Gently form 1 lb ground meat into patties. Do not overpack or press too tightly.

  2. Season both sides with sea salt and black pepper.

  3. Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add about 1 Tbsp avocado oil, olive oil, butter, or ghee.

  4. Add patties to the pan and cook 3–4 minutes per side for medium doneness.

  5. Remove from heat and let rest 2–3 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • This method works well with 90% lean ground beef (ideally grass-fed) or bison. It also works for ground turkey or chicken burgers, which may need an extra minute of cooking to ensure they are fully cooked through.

  • Avoid pressing the burger while cooking. This keeps it juicy.

  • Cheese can be added during the last minute of cooking if desired.
