How to Shred a Rotisserie Chicken.

Shredded rotisserie chicken in a bowl

Serves: 4–6 · Prep: 10 min · Cook: 0 min

Make It

  1. Let the rotisserie chicken cool for 5–10 minutes until easy to handle.

  2. Remove and discard the skin (optional).

  3. Pull the leg and thigh away from the body and separate at the joint.

  4. Remove the breast meat by slicing along the breastbone and pulling away.

  5. Shred all meat using two forks or your hands.

  6. Discard bones or save for homemade broth.

Notes

  • Rotisserie chicken is a time-saving shortcut for busy weeks. One chicken yields roughly 3–4 cups of shredded meat. Remove the skin if you want to reduce saturated fat.

  • Store shredded chicken in an airtight container and use throughout the week in salads, bowls, wraps, or grain dishes. This method is ideal for batch cooking and meal prep.
