The Protein Products Actually Worth Buying.

Every year the food industry descends on the expo floor and tries to convince you that protein belongs in everything.

At Expo West 2026 it was protein jello, protein donuts, protein boba tea, protein coffee and protein pretzels as far as the eye could see. Some of it is genuinely clever. Most of it is a sugar and inflammation bomb with better branding.

These are the ones that actually passed.

What makes a protein product worth buying?

A short ingredient list, real protein from real food, and no sugar hiding behind the health claim.

That third one disqualifies most of the floor. A bar with 20 grams of protein and 18 grams of sugar is a candy bar with a marketing budget. The products below earn their place because the protein comes from eggs, chicken or beef rather than from an isolate propped up with syrup.

The other test is whether it actually fits a real day. A product that only works in theory stays on the shelf.

The best new protein products from Expo West 2026

Juicybite fully cooked portable chicken breast. The one that solves the hardest problem in this category, which is protein you can eat away from a kitchen.

Protein Inc Protein Shot 25 grams of protein in a single shot.

Magos Whole Egg Chips 12 grams of protein from actual eggs.

Wilde Chicken and Egg White Chips yes, you've read it right.

Norse Roots Beef Tallow Chips pure viking food.

The protein staples I keep in my kitchen

Hero Bread Bagel, Toasts and Wraps low carb, high fiber, high protein, and the bread actually toasts.

Kaizen Protein Pasta low carb, high fiber, high protein pasta made of lupin flour. Works for salads or warm dishes.

Egglife Egg White Wraps zero carb wraps made entirely from egg whites. I use them for everything.

Do you need protein products to lose weight?

No. You need protein, and food gets you there first.

Chicken, fish, eggs, tofu, Greek yogurt and cottage cheese will always do this better than anything in a wrapper, and they cost less. Where these products earn their place is the gap: the day you are in the car at 3pm, the trip with no fridge, the afternoon between meetings where the alternative is whatever is at the coffee counter.

That is the honest use for all of it. Not a foundation, a bridge. For what protein actually does for weight loss, and how much you need, read The Truth About Protein for Weight Loss.
