20 Healthy Food Swaps to Reduce Inflammation.
Everyday ingredients either support you or quietly work against you.
Inflammation is one of the biggest hidden blockers to fat loss, and it is usually driven by foods you would never suspect. Your coffee. Your cooking oil. The yogurt in your fridge.
These are twenty swaps that reduce inflammation, steady blood sugar and take about a week to become normal.
Pantry and cooking staples
1. Table salt → mineral-rich sea salt
Redmond Real Salt, Celtic Sea Salt.
2. Sunflower, safflower or grapeseed oil → extra virgin olive oil
Graza, Brightland, Kasandrinos. If you use avocado oil, buy from a producer with third-party testing, because most avocado oil products are not actually avocado oil.
3. Margarine or canola spreads → real butter or olive oil
Vital Farms butter.
4. Store-bought salad dressing → make your own
This one has no safe shortcut. Bottled dressings labelled avocado oil failed purity testing 100% of the time in independent lab work. Olive oil, Dijon, vinegar, salt, shake in a jar. Or use one of the dressing recipes on the site.
Dairy and alternatives
5. Fat-free milk → grass-fed whole milk
Maple Hill, Alexandre Family Farm, Organic Valley Grassmilk.
6. Oat milk → unsweetened almond or coconut milk
Three Trees, MALK, Native Forest unsweetened coconut. Oat milk has a glycemic index around 69, which puts it in the high category.
7. Fat-free yogurt → full-fat grass-fed yogurt
Maple Hill, White Leaf Provisions, Alexandre Family Farm.
8. Flavored yogurt → plain yogurt with low-sugar jam
Cocojune, Stonyfield, Maple Hill, with Chia Smash or Good Good jam.
9. Flavored creamers → real-ingredient creamers
Nutpods unsweetened, Laird Superfood, Califia Organic.
Drinks and sweeteners
10. Coffee pods → organic whole bean coffee
Purity, Kion, Fabula.
11. Tea sachets → organic loose leaf
Pique, Rishi, Traditional Medicinals loose.
12. Sweetened iced tea → lemon water or herbal tea
Lemon Perfect, Pique herbal teas.
13. Diet soda → stevia-sweetened soda
Zevia, OLIPOP, Culture Pop. More on what is actually in these.
14. Artificial sweeteners → stevia, monk fruit or raw honey
SweetLeaf, Lakanto, Beekeeper's Naturals.
Breads, snacks and breakfast
15. White sandwich bread → sprouted or grain-free
Ezekiel 4:9, Base Culture almond bread.
16. Chips and crackers fried in seed oils → better options, checked
Mary's Gone Crackers, Simply Tostitos avocado oil tortilla chips, which passed independent purity testing. Read the oil on the label rather than the claim on the front.
17. Breakfast cereal → low-sugar or grain-free granola
Magic Spoon, Purely Elizabeth.
18. Granola bars → real-food bars
LÄRABAR, Hu Kitchen, or homemade almond butter bites.
19. Nut butter with added oils → nut butter with two ingredients
Artisana, Once Again, 365 almond butter.
20. Nuts roasted in seed oils → dry roasted or raw
Salted is fine.
Where to start
Do not do all twenty at once. Replace things as they run out, and in a month your kitchen looks different without a single dramatic decision.
If you want the three that matter most, they are the oil you cook with, the dressing on your salad, and the milk in your coffee. Those appear daily, and daily is what builds inflammation over time.
