How to Make Homemade Guacamole.

A bowl of homemade guacamole

Serves 4–6 · Prep: 5 min

Make It

  1. Cut 3 ripe avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a bowl.

  2. Mash with a fork to the texture you want, chunky or smooth.

  3. Add the juice of 1 lime, ½ tsp sea salt, and a pinch of black pepper.

  4. Taste and adjust the lime or salt.

  5. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Ripe avocados are everything. They should yield to gentle pressure but not feel mushy. To ripen faster, put them in a paper bag with a banana.

  • Skip store-bought guacamole. It usually carries fillers and preservatives, and fresh takes five minutes.

  • For traditional guacamole, fold in ¼ cup diced red onion, 2 Tbsp fresh cilantro, 1 small jalapeño minced with the seeds removed, a pinch of cumin, or ¼ cup diced tomato.

  • For a Strategic Snack: have 2 Tbsp guacamole with 1 cup raw veggies of choice.

  • Counts as Healthy Fats at 2 heaping Tbsp.
